Payload Chat
Simple messaging application built with Vue.js and Payload CMS

Overview
Developed a messaging application exploring the integration of Vue.js with Payload CMS as a headless backend. The project demonstrates how modern frontend frameworks can work seamlessly with headless CMS solutions to create dynamic, real-time applications.
Problem & Objective
Many developers struggle with setting up backend infrastructure for simple applications. This project aimed to explore how a headless CMS like Payload could simplify backend development while still providing the flexibility needed for custom application logic.
My Contribution
- Built the entire application from scratch using Vue.js for the frontend
- Integrated Payload CMS as a headless backend for content and user management
- Designed a clean, modular component architecture in Vue
- Implemented message creation, listing, and basic user management features
- Set up authentication and authorization using Payload's built-in systems
Features
- User registration and authentication
- Real-time message creation and sending
- Message listing with chronological ordering
- User management and profiles
- Clean, modern chat interface
- Responsive design for mobile and desktop
- RESTful API integration with Payload CMS
- Modular Vue component structure
- Message history and persistence
Challenges
Adapting to Payload's content model for chat functionality required creative thinking about data structures. Successfully mapped chat concepts to CMS collections while maintaining performance and usability.
Outcome
Successfully created a functional messaging application showcasing the integration between Vue.js and Payload CMS, proving the concept for future projects requiring similar architectures.
Impact
Demonstrated the viability of using headless CMS platforms for application backends, reducing development time and infrastructure complexity while maintaining flexibility.
